The Preparatory Year at Alfa College in Groningen prepares non-native Dutch speakers to enter University of Groningen or Hanze University of Applied Sciences. This programme is for refugees and asylum seekers who have reached level B1 Dutch and have a certificate that is equivalent to the Dutch HAVO diploma (senior general secondary education), or, who have followed a programme that grants them admission to higher education in their own country. The mandatory subjects are Dutch, English, Social Orientation, and Orientation on the Dutch labor market. There are also available choices from: chemistry, mathematics a/b, biology, economics or history.
